Yes. It echoes the chorus from Thunderdome, which she sang so beautifully: “All the children say We don't need another hero We don't need to know the way home All we want is life beyond Thunderdome.” What a lady.

This is alarming. An AI that pretends to be Caryn Marjorie and builds bonds with her fans through 1:1 interactions. Scary implications of AI influence on human behavior, from curing loneliness to building false bonds. Sci fi coming to life (i.e. “Her”). washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/05/13/caryn-ai-technology-gpt-4/...

Love this checklist. Spoke with a former colleague last night about the need for more frameworks like this for start-ups.
Posted this on LI today... a checklist of ethical questions to ask when building generative AI systems: linkedin.com/pulse/ai-ethics-checklist-james-joaquin...

Between the Santos surrender and the Trump arrest, charges, and legal proceedings, it is heartening to see that we still live in a nation of laws and justice. Here’s to the courts and the FBI.

Their party will still make excuses for both and not disavow either, but yes agreed!

While it’s great to see unscrupulous actors face consequences, it’s a sedative. It perpetuates the myth of “law and justice” in the US. “Laws for you, not for me. Justice for me, not for you.” That’s the real US. Established by the rich and powerful, for the rich and powerful.

The US is a country of unjust exploitation and oppression. We ought not call it “just” while so many within and beyond its borders are killed, jailed, unhoused, or exploited. We must recognize that, work to dismantle systems of US injustice, and build better ones. We can!

I hear you. Starting with the Constitution, our laws and institutions need to reflect our founding principles of equality, justice, and freedom -- for everyone.

It feels like every day since the pandemic there are police helicopters flying overhead in East Oakland looking for crooks. It shakes the house for hours. So if ever meet any of these crooks at a bar, I’ll ask: - why not take up cooking? - crocheting? - masonry? anything! :)

Fun fact: one of my local interior shops sells chopping boards made by prisoners and there's also a cafe not far that uses coffee beans that have been roasted in a prison. I thought it's a nice way to rehabilitate people. I think they also teach them barista skills.

But obviously it would be nice if they picked those skills before/instead of going to prison

Yes it did! Season 3. And it’s so good. It’s so good I’d recommend watching all of it vs. just the first and last episodes and reading the synopses in the middle. :)

Young smart dude on an AI podcast: “I’m old enough to remember when the bar exam was something you had to make a specially-trained [machine learning] model for”. Well young man, I’m old enough to remember rotary phones, rewinding videos, and the premier of Purple Rain. So there.

Fun to think that this generation can mark out its young years through the evolution of natural language models while my generation did it through the Mac SE etc…. and U2 albums.
