What is the intended purpose of verification on here? It was always a but murky on Twitter: some amorphous mix of identifying importance/prestige and establishing identity (and, more recently, could just be bought)

It's evolving. We want to verify that you're a real person, make sure you are who you claim to be (first names are ok). We have also learned that in the verification sessions with @Sarah we learn a lot from our users. So ... it's a bit of user research too.

You couldn't really see it with the unadjusted naked eye, but it showed up pretty easily on say night mode on a phone camera This is a more-serious camera though
