I don't know much beyond what kagi․com says. According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kagi... the e-commerce site operated from 1994 to 2016, and the new Kagi was founded in 2018. WHOIS records show the domain technically never lapsed. Archive․org shows kagi․com was for sale in late 2017.

Super interesting to find someone who uses Kagi. In September, we mentioned this company on the @intego Mac Podcast in the context of expired domain reuse (and the potential dangers of it). Kagi’s FAQ notes they’re unrelated to a previous, well-known Kagi. browser.kagi.com/faq.html#oldkagi...

That is at least an "interesting" move. I wasn't aware of the shareware platform, but find it bold to re-use an established (as in "legendary") name for a different kind of product. Do you know more about the motivation behind it, or is it really just a "we liked the name?"

Just saw this post. I wrote an article about the potential for misuse of these domains last week: intego.com/mac-security-blog/expect-zip-and-mov-domains-to-be-used-in-phishing-and-malware-attacks/... I suspect that a lot of the malicious-looking domains registered last week were probably intended as jokes. At least one looked like a real phishing site.

See also Johannes Ullrich’s article, written the same day as mine. This was his quick assessment of the breakdown of how .zip domains were being used. That’s a lot of Rickrolls. 😂 isc.sans.edu/diary/rss/29858...

“Weird they didn’t change their price considering the 30% AppStore fee” My thoughts exactly. 🤔 It was a massive mistake on OpenAI’s part to not roll out an official iOS app sooner. In the mean time, tons of sketchy, overpriced apps have popped up on the App Store.
